The beauty of the hands. We shake hands and make gestures. Hands work in many diverse ways. We shape the world with our hands. And yet: manual work is less and less visible in public spaces - as if we were ashamed of it. It is outsourced to low-cost countries and it is said that robots will soon be doing it for us.
On the background of a text by the philosopher Friedrich Engels, which explores the role of work in human evolution, Krempke shows working hands - HANDLINGS - in the shop windows around his neighbourhood in Zürich.
Engels was unable to complete the work on his text, the manuscript ends in the middle of a sentence: "While all possessions are concentrated more and more in the hands of non-workers, that ..."
